A role model is a person whose behaviour, success or goals can be emulated by other people. This is a person whose values and beliefs distinguish them as inspirational or admirable.
CAMH
Personally, a role model that has significantly impacted my future plans and goals is not a single person, but rather an organization – The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).
CAMH is Canada’s largest mental health and addiction hospital. Not only does it provide assistance and support for people dealing with such issues, it operates as one of the leading research centers relative to mental health and addiction. I believe that for a person to even begin thinking about helping others, they must first help themselves.
In that sense, CAMH is a great foundation that promotes health and works toward de-stigmatizing mental health and addiction.
Clients who have been treated at the CAMH facilities have stated that they wouldn’t be the people they are today if they couldn’t recover.
“As hard as it was, I never would have been the person I am today without having gone through recovery at CAMH. Today I work as an addiction counsellor. I know addiction can be overcome, and that change is possible.” - Laura Snazel, CAMH volunteer
Furthermore, the foundation itself is internationally recognized for its philosophy, mission and overall performance.
Elon Musk
Another great role model would be Elon Musk. He’s significantly impacted the world in a positive way. A man who started without much, had big dreams and didn’t settle for anything less.
Elon Musk is a South African born Canadian who founded of SpaceX and Tesla Motors. His major vision is to change the world and reduce
global warming by using sustainable forms of energies.
As can be seen on the infographic, Elon Musk started with a difficult childhood in South Africa. He taught himself to program and eventually went on to ace college.
After that he becomes an important figure by founding Zip2 and Paypal, building rockets and managing SpaceX and Tesla.
The reason why he’s such a role model figure is because he basically started with nothing, but worked hard to beat the odds and make something out of his life. He wanted to do something for the world and didn’t use his circumstances as an excuse to prevent him from getting the results he wanted.
I highly recommend looking at the whole infographic for a better understanding on his accomplishments, because nothing I say can possibly capture all of his work.
